Besides making Lake County a leading example toward energy independence and the green energy initiative, the Spencer Farm Wind Project would also bring fiscal benefits such as tax revenues and new jobs to the area.  Furthermore, with the ever increasing demand for energy, the project will help keep electricity costs more stable for the surrounding area in the future. The wind farm will produce enough energy to power the equivalent of 3,000 to 5,000 average-sized homes annually.

Zoning Requirements

Lake County officials have created a Wind Energy Task Force to assist in creating a model wind ordinance.  They are working diligently to create an odinance with the best interest of the neighboring residents in mind.  Please check back at later date for more details.

Environmental

Based on average EPA-reported emissions rates, Spencer Farm Wind Project would contribute the following environmental benefits (numbers rounded and based on a 15 megawatt project):

  • 34,000 metric tons of CO2 displaced annually
  • 232,000 pounds of SO2 displaced annually
  • 90,000 pounds of NOx displaced annually
  • 2,300 pounds of mercury displaced annually

To put this in perspective, this reduction in emissions is the carbon equivalent of 7,200 acres of pine/fir forestry, or eliminating 6,500 cars/light trucks from the road each year!
